What do cane syrup, chili and a barbershop quartet have in common? They are all features of the upcoming event called Raising Cane, a gala to which residents of Grove Ridge RV Resort can look forward.
Local festivals across the country are always interesting, as they reflect the cultural heritage of the area. Raising Cane is a perfect example of such an event, as it celebrates several perks associated with living in Florida. While the state is known for its oranges, the rural areas of Central Florida are also known for homemade cane syrup. The festival will showcase this wonderfully sweet condiment as well as chili and salsa, beloved foods that are derived from the Hispanic ethnicity.
Raising Cane will be held on January 14 at the Pioneer Florida Museum in Dade City. The morning will start will a pancake breakfast with cane syrup along with a syrup–tasting contest. Later in the morning, iron skillet tossin’ and sugar cane pole tossin’ will follow. The event will also include chili, chili verdi and salsa competitions in addition to live entertainment throughout the day. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is $5.
