Spring is in Bloom
Spring is on it’s way in and we couldn’t be more excited! Spring means various in-season fruits and vegetables, greener scenery, baseball, and the ever popular spring break. While it’s possible that our beaches will be a little more full this season, we shouldn’t shy away from them because of that! We should take full advantage of the beautiful Florida sun, just like all the visitors will.
Daytona beaches are perfect for sunbathing, fishing, and taking a quick dip! The water is always the perfect temperature and letting the waves roll over your feet as you walk up and down the sandy paths truly is therapeutic. We also recommend seeing a sunrise or sunset on the beach. Each are picturesque with their bright shades of pink and orange lighting up the sky.
Another way to enjoy the weather is to visit the De Leon Springs state park and lighthouse. Visitors can make the climb to the top of the lighthouse if they choose for only $7. Those that do will see the true beauty of Florida that only one on top of the world can see! Learn about the history of the lighthouse and just take in the awe-inspiring tower that stands before you. She’s truly gorgeous! An interesting fact about the lighthouse is that it’s allegedly haunted by a few spirits, one of which is said to be assistant lightkeeper Joseph Davis. Visitors have said to have smelled an unexplained waft of kerosene, which is unusual since kerosene has not been used in the lighthouse since the 30s. Another spirit said to reside at the lighthouse is the former lightkeeper’s son, who died after being kicked by a horse. His ghost is said to plays pranks. See for yourself is the legend is true!
Daytona Flea & Farmers market is our favorite stop on the weekends. Locals and residents alike visit the market often in search of thrifty finds and beautiful antiques. Sometimes you’ve got to sift through a few rocks before finding the diamond, but that’s half the fun! Special events this month include the Cruise-In, on the first Saturday of each month, and an arts and crafts show scheduled for the second Sunday of each month.
