If you’re looking for a good ghost story with a local twist or you want to scare up some fun activities for the kids, Niagara loves to get in the Halloween spirit.
Sherkston Shores Beach Resort will join in seasonal celebrations with our own pre-Halloween party for children on Saturday, October 28th 1pm-3pm and is open to anyone staying at the resort. Be sure to wear your costumes for some fun activities. Throughout the day, we’re organizing costume contests, spooky games, crafts and trick-or-treating. Kid’s Crazy Craft time will be at 10:30am at the Live Lounge.
But the fun isn’t just for the kids. At night, on the eve of Saturday, October 28th, we’re holding a costume party for adults in the Live Lounge at 9pm, featuring a live performance by the band “The Howling Horns.” The whole resort will be decked out with Halloween decorations to help everyone get in the mood.
Not far from Sherkston, Old Fort Erie is bringing to life traditions of Halloween from days gone by through the ghosts of Canada’s bloodiest battlefield. The Niagara Parks Commission is running All Hallows’ Eve tours at the old stone fort on Oct. 21, 27 and 28, featuring ghost stories, refreshments and the annual burning of a Guy Fawkes effigy. More details here.
See Niagara-on-the-Lake in a whole new light on “Ghost Walks” that offer a mix of history and terrifying tales befitting "Canada's Most Haunted Town". The tour includes the Angel Inn, Courthouse, Royal George Theatre and Prince of Wales Hotel, as well as a mystery at the Apothecary, a deathly first and only, and a house that makes cameras go crazy. Tours run every night until the end of October. You can find out more here.
There’s tonnes of family-oriented Halloween fun to be had at Howell’s Pumpkin Farm, just outside of Fonthill. Not only is the farm a great place to pick out a few pumpkins for carving, but it has a spooky barn, corn maze, dozens of activities for kids of all ages, great food and entertaining shows. Plan your trip here.
Another great experience to be had during Halloween time is at Warner Ranch & Pumpkin Farm just minutes down the road from Sherkston Shores. The farm offers 200 acres of fun for the family, operating one of the largest pumpkin farms in Niagara. Open daily from 8am-7pm running through end of October, they offer a petting zoo, horse drawn hay rides, a corn maze, inflatable bounce house, pony rides, and of course carry pumpkins in all shapes and sizes as well as gourds, corn stalks, straw, hay bales, apples and so much more. The Haunted Hayride will have you on the edge of your seat as you journey through 50 acres of haunted forest with terrifying displays and live actors that will be sure to ‘jolt’ you off your seat.
“Boo at the Zoo” is one of our favourite events in the Niagara area to attend with the kids. Just 10 minutes from Sherkston Shores, Safari Niagara will host their 5th annual family friendly 3 day Halloween event – October 7, 8, 9, 2017. Kids can trick-or-treat around the zoo while visiting the animals in the park, participate in a kids dance party, a costume party, and a scavenger hunt to win a 2018 family season membership for the zoo.
