Quintessential Florida Wintering at Fort Myers

November 13, 2017

By Mary West

The 5-star campground of Groves RV Resort exudes a quintessential Florida vibe, with towering palms and tropical landscaping. It has everything an RVer could desire, including planned socials, as well as a community that offers beaches, themed mini golf courses and museums.

Edison and Ford Winter Estates

Two of our country’s most famous inventors, Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, had neighboring winter estates in Fort Myers. Take a foray into this interesting era of history by visiting their homes, along with the onsite Inventors Museum, Edison Botanical Research Lab and award-winning gardens. The attraction, one of the city’s top sightseeing spots, has many tour options.

A self-guided ticket is $20 for adults, $15 for ages 13 to 19 and $12 for ages 6 to 12. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. seven days a week. The address is 2350 McGregor Boulevard.

November 24 marks the start of Edison and Ford Holiday Nights, a Southwest Florida holiday tradition. During this time, the interior and exterior of the homes are festively decorated. Nightly guided tours are offered at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Groves RV Resort

Our Fort Myers RV park has a clubhouse that is the scene of fun activities like potluck suppers and exercise classes. Other amenities include a fitness center and facilities for shuffleboard, bocce ball and pickle ball. In addition, the city has a variety of things to do, including touring the fabulous Everglades and attending baseball games in the spring. Consider making our resort your winter abode.
