It’s not too early to start making plans to attend one of our area’s largest galas – the Florida Strawberry Festival. It will feature entertainment by some of the biggest names in the music industry.
The festival will be held on March 2 to 12 in nearby Plant City. Tickets for individual concerts went on sale in December, so you may want to go to the website and purchase admission for the shows in which you are most interested. Headliners include Willie Nelson, the Gatlin Brothers, Scott McCreery, the Oak Ridge Boys, Patti LaBelle and many more.
A part of the gala is the Neighborhood Village, which will hold an extensive array of handcrafted items made by people in the community. In addition, the village will host quite a few contests such as cake decorating, preserves, baking, home décor, jewelry, quilts, scrapbooks, needlework and knitting.
This family event has something special for children. They will enjoy the Belle City Midway, an attraction with rides and games.
Perhaps best of all, the festival offers strawberry treats of all kinds. You can expect to see strawberry shortcake, strawberry milkshakes, strawberry jam, strawberry cheesecake, strawberry fudge and strawberry lemonade. Aside from the treats, the event has a strawberry production exhibit, which shows how the fruit was grown in years past and how it is cultivated today.
Admission is $5 for children 6 to 12 and $10 for anyone 13 years old and older. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
