While you’ll enjoy your time at Sweetwater RV Resort, all the attractions of Tampa are only 20 miles away. An absolute must-see is the Tampa Theatre, a historic art deco cinema that will transport you to a bygone era.

One of the most beautiful movie houses in the world, the Tampa Theatre evokes the romance and glamour of the golden age of Hollywood. Built in the 1920s, its old world elegance capitates visitors as soon as they enter. Features include lavish balconies and statuary along with a domed ceiling designed to emulate the night sky, complete with twinkling stars and moving clouds. Moviegoers should arrive early to watch the Wurlitzer pipe organ ascend from under the stage and give a pre-show recital.

In addition to being a venue for films, the theater is also a setting for concerts, comedy acts and speakers. The stage has been graced by notables such as former President George Bush and scientist Jane Goodall.

Ninety-minute tours are offered that provide information about the architecture and tell stories about the cinema. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children.
