Newcomers to Big Tree RV Resort in Arcadia quickly discover a not-so-well-kept secret -- the community is a superb place for antique shopping.

On the fourth Saturday of every month, one of the largest antique fairs in Florida is held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Arcadia. Yet you have no need to wait for this day to go antiquing because the town has an array of shops that beckon passersby to explore. You can browse through enterprises that include Mary’s Attic, Treasure Alley, Miss Pearl’s Place and more.

Arcadia Opera House

The Arcadia Opera House is a 1906 structure that has been turned into an antique market extraordinaire. Housed within its 14 rooms are museum pieces from the turn-of-the-century theater such as an old-timey band organ and a cylinder used to crank up the stage curtains. It also contains furniture from New England, as well as vintage clothing and glassware. Other highlights include a 1923 Victrola and RCA Victor Consolette, along with many record albums.
